Continuing
the idea in the above statement, the main aim as well as the most
valuable objective school is to educate children
coming from different nations and parts through
communication and language.
Apart
from this core goal the ‘Vienna Bilingual Schooling’ model follows
also a pragmatic approach. Children learn through a self-evident
implementation of German and English a natural handling and
confrontation with these two languages. Taking a view of the globalised
world this fact becomes more and more a necessity worth regarding.
The
project of the bilingual primary school is part of the wider concept of
‘Vienna Bilingual Schooling’, starting from kindergarden and leading
up to the ‘Matura’ (the qualification to attend university). The
primary school’s role in this context is the one of setting the basis
for such a deep bilingual education. Pupils are taught according to the
Austrian curriculum in their mother tongue (German/English) bearing in
mind that the children acquire widespread proficiencies also in their
second language; proficiencies that could not be reached through the
common foreign language education.
In
order to translate this into reality Austrian primary school teachers
with a fluent knowledge of the English language as well as native
speaker teachers with an equivalent teacher training work in each class
as a team.
Therefore,
teaching itself consists in parts of actual teamteaching; only in the
fundamental acquisition of the mother tongue the children are divided
into two learning groups.
REQUIREMENTS:
Basic
requirement for attending the bilingual primary school is that the child
has grown up bilingually or, next to his/her
ENROLMENT:
Because
of the above mentioned linguistic competence the division of the
children into the English or the German group is ideally done via a
50:50-key: 50% of children in the German learning group, 50% of children
in the English learning group.
